1. Scope and operator
This Privacy Policy explains how the independent developer and operator of Tax Advisor (referred to as “Tax Advisor”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles personal data when you use the Tax Advisor application, its official website, or contact support.
Tax Advisor is a self-service information, organisation, preparation, and review tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, approved by, or acting on behalf of the Oman Tax Authority, the Government of Oman, or any other government or professional body.
Local-first does not mean no data exists. It means Tax Advisor does not require an account or a central Tax Advisor server for the core manual workflow. You control the local copy and the optional services you enable.
2. Data kept locally
Depending on what you enter or import, the application may hold:
- profile information, such as a profile name, taxpayer scope, and tax year;
- income, deductions, reliefs, source-country details, review states, and calculation inputs;
- supporting documents, evidence links, imported records, notes, reports, and audit information;
- app settings, including language, appearance, analytics consent, and backup preferences.
In the desktop and mobile application, this information is stored in local application files and device storage. In the web application, profiles, workspaces, settings, and imported evidence are stored in browser storage for the site. The manual workflow does not upload these items to a Tax Advisor server.
The public quick-assessment flow is designed to run as an anonymous, session-only process without saving answers to a Tax Advisor workspace or sending them to AI or support diagnostics.
Backups and exports
When you create a backup, report, or spreadsheet, you choose where it is saved or downloaded. Tax Advisor backups use AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption with a key derived using Argon2id. Tax Advisor cannot recover a forgotten backup password. A folder chosen for backup may be synchronised by a third-party service installed on your device; that service’s privacy terms then apply.
Browser storage
Browser storage is best-effort. It may be removed by private-browsing rules, browser or site-data settings, quota enforcement, or a browser reset. Export encrypted backups regularly if you use the web application.
3. Optional usage analytics
On web builds where Google Analytics 4 is configured, analytics is off until you expressly accept it. Rejecting analytics does not limit the application. If you consent, Google may receive page paths, the page title and location, browser and device information, IP address, and approximate location to help us understand page visits and improve Tax Advisor.
Tax Advisor is designed not to include tax-record values, names, profile details, documents, or search text in analytics events. Advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalisation, and Google Signals remain disabled.
Your choice is stored locally so the application can remember it. You can change it at any time under Settings → Usage analytics. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics events and the web application attempts to remove Google Analytics first-party cookies. You can also clear them using your browser’s site-data controls. Google handles analytics data under its own privacy terms.
4. AI features
The current public release has no AI features. the application does not send workspace content to any AI provider. The complete workflow operates without AI.
If a future release introduces an optional AI feature, this policy and the in-app notice will be updated before that feature is made available. Any external processing would require a clear user action and appropriate consent controls.
5. Support and diagnostics
Tax Advisor does not automatically upload support diagnostics. A diagnostics file is generated only when you request it, and you decide whether and how to share it. It is designed to contain allow-listed operational metadata such as app and platform versions, workspace-schema and backup status, feature-status flags, rule-package lifecycle metadata, and non-sensitive error codes.
Diagnostics are designed to exclude taxpayer facts, financial amounts, documents, credentials, local file paths, free-form error messages, and personal identifiers. Review any file before sending it. If you contact us, we process the contact information and message you provide to answer the request and maintain reasonable support records.
6. Website, hosting, and app stores
This privacy-policy page contains no analytics script by itself. The website’s hosting provider may nevertheless process standard request and security logs, such as IP address, date and time, requested page, referring page, user agent, and error information, to deliver and protect the site. Those logs are governed by the hosting configuration and provider terms.
If you obtain Tax Advisor through an app store or marketplace, the store operator may process purchase, licensing, device, and account information independently. Tax Advisor does not receive your full payment-card details from an app store. Review the store operator’s privacy policy for its practices.
8. Retention and deletion
You control retention of local profiles, records, documents, reports, settings, and backups. Use Tax Advisor’s delete controls and your operating system or browser controls to remove them. Deleting the application may not delete separately exported reports, downloaded backups, files copied elsewhere, synced copies, or browser data unless you remove those separately.
Analytics retention is controlled through the applicable Google Analytics property and Google’s systems. Support messages and voluntarily supplied attachments are kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond, protect the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Hosting and app-store providers apply their own retention periods.
9. Security
Tax Advisor uses local-first architecture, consent controls, authenticated backup encryption, restricted support diagnostics, and deterministic tax logic. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Keep your device, browser, operating system, and backup password secure, and maintain tested backups.
10. Your choices and privacy rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete most Tax Advisor data directly because it is stored under your control. You can also reject or withdraw analytics consent. AI and external AI requests are unavailable in the current public release.
Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights concerning personal data that we actually hold, including rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a copy, and to withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. We may need to verify your request. We cannot retrieve or act on workspace data that never left your device. You may also contact the competent data-protection authority.
11. Children
Tax Advisor is intended for adults managing tax-related information and is not directed to children. Do not provide a child’s personal data unless you are legally authorised to do so and it is necessary for your tax records.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when Tax Advisor’s features, providers, or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top identifies the latest version. Material changes should be communicated through the website, application, or release notes as appropriate.
For privacy questions or requests, use the contact or support channel published on the official Tax Advisor website. Please do not send tax records, identity documents, passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information unless it is specifically necessary and you have agreed on a secure method.
